A few weeks ago I wrote a post, explaining how important it was to meet students at the classroom door.  Before class, I have been religiously greeting each of my freshmen students at the door with a pleasant smile and handshake.  Students have made huge strides within these past few weeks.  I’ve had many students stop and ask how my day is going.  But, I had one memorable break-through this past Friday.  A very shy student, who never made any eye-contact, shocked me when she stopped, stuck out her hand, made eye contact, and said, “good morning” before I did anything.  Yeah!  My freshmen are learning how to properly greet each other and showing some confidence.
